May 11, 2024 – Mother’s Day Celebrations with Health Matters Seminar
The Flower City Friends Club celebrated Mother’s Day at the Century Gardens Recreation Centre in Brampton, coupling the event with a critical seminar on mental health among seniors. Attended by over 100 senior members, the event featured cultural performances, including traditional Gidha, and various culinary delights.
Bhai Guljar Singh, a certified counsellor, presented on mental health issues prevalent among seniors, aiming to enhance awareness and provide remedies. Kamal Khera, MP for Brampton West, highlighted the event’s alignment with Canada’s Mental Health Awareness Week, emphasizing the importance of mental health, especially in senior populations. The celebration also saw personal tributes to mothers by members, including heartfelt reflections by Mr. Shaqat Ali, MP for Brampton Centre.
March 23, 2024 – HoliTastic Day (Rang Barse on Holi-Day)
Flower City Friends Club marked the festival of Holi with a vibrant celebration at Terry Miller Recreation Centre, Brampton. Over 100 members dressed in colorful attire participated in the festivities, which included traditional dances and songs. The event emphasized unity and camaraderie, with members spreading colors symbolizing joy and health.
Gian Paul, director of the club, stressed the importance of such cultural events in promoting unity among communities. Distinguished guests including Maninder Sidhu, MP, and Charmaine Williams, discussed the significance of women in community building and praised the club’s leadership structure dominated by visionary women.
February 24, 2024 – Hug and Harmony Valentine Party
The Flower City Friends Club hosted its Hug & Harmony Valentine’s Party at Loafers Lake Recreation Centre, Brampton. This event coincided with Family Day, fostering a spirit of love and togetherness among members and their families. The celebration featured multicultural snacks, musical performances, and a special birthday celebration for a beloved club member.
Dignitaries such as Kamal Khera, MP for Brampton West, and Amarjot Sandhu, MPP for Brampton West, commended the club’s efforts in enhancing community ties and senior well being. Gian Paul announced an exciting lineup of future events to foster continued friendship and enjoyment within the community.
January 28, 2024 – Lohri Lights Cancer Fights
Flower City Friends Club hosted the Multicultural Lohri Festival at Century Gardens Recreation Centre, Brampton, turning the occasion into a mission for cancer survivors. The club donated hand-knitted hats to cancer survivors at William Osler Hospital, highlighted by Mrs. Samar Sayed’s acknowledgement of this generous act. The event featured traditional cultural performances and a significant donation of $1000 to the hospital.
Mayor Patrick Brown and other dignitaries lauded the club’s efforts in supporting both the community and the hospital. The evening was a memorable gathering that underscored the club’s commitment to caring and sharing, particularly benefiting seniors and those in need.
Yoga On The Beach: July 15, 2023
On July 15, 2023, members of the Flower City Friends Club embarked on a memorable journey to Collingwood and Blue Mountain Village. The highlight of their trip was “Yoga on the Beach,” a unique and invigorating activity aimed at promoting holistic health among members, including senior citizens and new immigrants.
Multicultural Event: Mela Tiyan Da – July 25, 2023
The Flower City Friends Club celebrated Tiyan Da Mela, a vibrant North Indian and Punjabi social event on July 25, 2023. This event aimed to promote unity and harmony among diverse cultures.
The event brought together over 80 members hailing from Punjabi, Gujarati, South Indian, and Muslim communities, showcasing the beautiful tapestry of our society. Participants actively engaged in traditional Punjabi Folk Dance Gidha, filling the atmosphere with boundless energy and enthusiasm.
Labour Day with Vibrant Multicultural Mela – Sept. 10, 2023
