Flower City Friends Club Colors Brampton with Holi, Equality, and Women’s Empowerment

The Flower City Friends Club (FCFC) hosted a vibrant celebration of the Holi festival and International Women’s Day, bringing together over 100 senior members at the Paul Palleschi Recreation Centre in Brampton. Held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, the event blended cultural festivities with a heartfelt tribute to women’s contributions, featuring inspiring speeches, lively entertainment, and a unique yoga session tailored for seniors.

The event kicked off with a warm welcome from Gian Paul, Chairperson of the Flower City Friends Club, who congratulated the attendees on the dual celebration. “Holi is a festival of colors and unity, and International Women’s Day is a moment to honor the strength and resilience of women. Today, we celebrate both with our incredible seniors who bring life and wisdom to our community,” Gian Paul said, igniting the festive spirit.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown attended as the special guest and keynote speaker, delivering an impactful address on the importance of women in society. “Women are the heartbeat of Brampton—their leadership, compassion, and determination inspire us all. Gender equality isn’t just a goal; it’s a necessity for a thriving society,” he emphasized. Praising the efforts of FCFC, he added, “The Flower City Friends Club’s dedication to uniting seniors through such meaningful celebrations reflects their commitment to inclusivity and community strength. This event is a shining example of how culture and empowerment can bring us together.”

Charmaine Williams, recently re-elected Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Brampton Centre, also joined the celebration and spoke passionately about women’s empowerment. “Women’s contributions are the foundation of progress—whether in families, workplaces, or communities. Events like these remind us to celebrate and support women every day, not just on special occasions,” she remarked. Williams engaged with the seniors by participating in a lively bingo game, adding to the event’s joyful atmosphere.

Regional Councillor Paul Vicente addressed the gathering, focusing on the invaluable role of seniors in the community. “Holi brings joy and renewal, and International Women’s Day reminds us of the strength within our community. Our seniors are the pillars who keep our traditions alive and teach us the importance of unity,” Vicente stated, capturing the essence of the day’s significance.

A highlight of the event was a special session led by Anuja Kabuli, a certified yoga instructor, who motivated the senior members by emphasizing the transformative power of yoga. “Yoga is a gift for life—it reduces stress, improves mobility, and helps us lead healthier, happier lives, no matter our age,” Kabuli shared with the group. She then guided the seniors through a fun and accessible yoga session set to Bollywood-style music, blending traditional poses with rhythmic beats. The seniors enthusiastically participated, enjoying the fusion of wellness and entertainment.

The celebration continued with spirited dance performances and melodious songs that kept the audience enthralled. Attendees savored delicious food, enhancing the festive mood, while a bingo game sparked laughter and excitement. Charmaine Williams’ participation in the game was a crowd favorite, fostering a sense of connection among the seniors.

In his closing remarks, Gian Paul thanked the members, special guests, and Anuja Kabuli for their contributions to the event’s success. “Thank you to everyone who joined us today—your energy and enthusiasm made this celebration unforgettable. The Flower City Friends Club looks forward to more events that strengthen our community bonds,” he said, hinting at exciting future gatherings.
